Isawan Pilgrimage

Your City Promdi has made a trip to the mecca of Philippine street food--Mang Larry's in University of the Philippines, Diliman. It's been more than five years since I last went there for the isaw baboy and isaw manok. But the food was as good as ever, although his cart (and system!) got a bit of an upgrade.

The old rickety stall of ole was replaced and relocated by a new steel shop in one of UP's fields. There were also a lot more employees taking orders, fanning the fires, and cooking the isaw.

When we got there, the sun was just setting. People were milling about the field. In front of Mang Larry's isawan, there was a long line waiting to order. One of the young men manning the stall was callling out for Customer #97. Your City Promdi and her companions were assigned second round #16 tp #20.

We milled around waiting for our food to be prepared (admittedly while shopping for pirated HD DVDs). When we finally got our order, it was dark and we were super hungry. We devoured our isaw and barbecues, and everything was right in the world. It was THAT good!
