At my mom's request, we recently decided to attend Sunday Mass at the Kamay ni Hesus Healing Center in Lucban, Quezon. I live 30 minutes away and have visited the hillside grotto, but I can't remember attending the healing mass before, so this was a very interesting time for me.

We got there just in time for the mass that was presided by the healing priest, Fr. Joey Faller.

I first heard Fr. Joey say mass at the St. Peter's Cathedral in Lucena City when I was maybe 10 or 11 years old. I remember he had a band instead of a choir serving that mass, which was very enjoyable for the easily-bored kid I was back then. I remember just before the Eucharist, Fr. Joey will lead in a prayer with the band singing in the background. I realize now it's a worship service within the Mass. I super liked his style of preaching, and remember earnestly praying when he asked us to pray.

At the Kamay ni Hesus, there was no more band. There was a more conventional choir--still enjoyable. Fr. Joey is older and slimmer than how I remember him. But he still had those two crooked fingers--the ones he said he cannot heal even though he have helped so many others pray for their own healing. And he still has the same flare when he said his homily.

Come time for the healing prayers, I was very pleasantly surprised that though some people claim Fr. Joey creates miracles, the priest himself was very careful not to claim anything for himself. He serves, and he heals, but it is only by Jesus Christ's grace and through the power of each individual's sincere, earnest prayers and his/her faith in Jesus.

It was wonderful to pray amidst the unabashed prayers of the whole Congregation. Fr. Joey asked us to touch the long cloth that was passed over the congregation, a sign of Jesus' healing touch. And touch the cloth I did! He recited prayers of healing for a whole host of bodily illnesses, along with the emotional and psychological bruises that may need healing  too.

I left there feeling amused at just how many illnesses and diseases Fr. Joey is able to recite off the top of his head. I also left there feeling blesses for having finally been able to attend Mass at the Kamay ni Hesus.
